My daughter recently purchased a 160 year old Victorian Italianate shotgun house in Uptown New Orleans. We wanted to learn more about the architecture of the period so we purchased this book which provided a great introduction and a New Orleans HOuses by Lloyd Vogt which provides more detail.

This was a Christmas gift for one of my grandson's who has an affinity for old houses, architecture and design concepts. I purchased it as a Christmas gift and he appreciated it very much. He is 13 and we think a budding architect. Great book.
I bought a copy of this book at the 1850s House gift shop in New Orleans while I was doing research for a novel. What I liked about it is that even a non-architect could understand the principles being explained, and it helped me to better understand what I was seeing as I looked at different homes. While it is aimed at young people, adults with an interest in the subject matter will be able to gain an excellent basic grounding in the various types of architecture they will see during a visit to NOLA. Highly recommended.
