Toddlers are notorious for demanding what they want, but perhaps an adorable little owl can show them how nice it is to say "please".In Say Please, Little Owlet, kids are shown through rhymes and illustrations how ugly it looks to demand something rather than ask. They are also shown how sad it makes Mommys and Daddys when they themselves act like that too. The story of Little Owlet brings into play family qualities, good manners, playtime, and beautiful illustrations. Even though Little Owlet has so much fun laughing and playing with his pet mouse, he gets into a sour mood whenever he wants something. His mother teaches him that saying "please" is easy to do, keeps everyone in a better mood, and usually has a better chance of receiving what it is he asked for.I loved how simple the story is! It's illustrations carry just as much of the story as the words do, and the rhymes are beautiful. Say Please, Little Owlet is a quick read and would be great before bed or even as a short lesson in Sunday School or Parents' Day Out. I loved this book from the first glance because of unique, creative, and colorful illustrations and because my daughter loves this kind of books. She is three and currently she likes the set of books in rhymes about good manners, including: "Hello", "Please", "Thank you", and "Sorry". She is taking these small books everywhere, especially when we travel, which we do quite often. So I wanted to get a new similar book. We have been reading it on the go in the train and she absolutely loved it! The friend of the owlet is a cute mouse, and they can both enjoy the tasty cake. However, the mommy owl encourages her little owlet to use the magic of "please" word and explains why this small word is so important.That's a simple story, but the rhymes and the illustrations are fantastic. So my girl has been charmed by this book!
Little Owlet lives in a treehouse with his family and a pet house. They are happy, cozy,and comfortable. There is one problem that disturbs Owlet's parents, he lacks good manners and refuses to say please.The book is written with four lines to a page in rhyme. There are times when the rhyme is forced and the vocabulary a bit awkward for the targeted preschool audience. I do like the message and the beautiful, soft, watercolor illustrations.This book is best used as a bedtime story and as a wonderful read aloud to illustrate the importance of good manners. Recommended for a preschool audience.
Really enjoyed the book, and thought it was a wonderful way to teach little children how to be more gracious. The illustrations weredelightful and sweet. I gave it a four because "learnt" was used instead of "learned". I think it is important to not confuse children asthey see and hear words that they should be the way they will be held accountable in future spelling projects in school. Now, if thewhole book used words to add a little look into a place and time that would be quite fun.
Got this ebook for my little nephew and he like it. He usually uses tablet for some games, cartoons but my idea was to show him a real pictured book. And it worked! He tries to read some words and adores owlets pet mouse, likes the mouse most of all. I think his parents will continue to show him ebooks instead of cartoons and will work on reading real books.
The illustrations are fantastic (they bumped it up from 2 to 3 stars), and the story line is relatable to parents. But the rhymes are forced and don't flow well. The whole book feels fake and patronizing to me - very preachy. There are much better ways (and books) out there to teach preschoolers manners.
What I really like about this little bedtime story is how it motivates kids to do simple yet good things like saying ‘please’ when asking something. It worked just well for my little son, in exactly the same way as it did for the Owlet! The sweet-sounding nursery rhymes and vivid pictures deserve special respect. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
